“It’s such a gift to be able to create and having fun and bringing an element of play to my work is something that I take very seriously. When someone sees my work and they break into a smile or a laugh that is what keeps me going”.

Inspired by urban and rural environments alike, Andrew feeds off the world around him. He is influenced by the natural world, the human-animal and the intersection of these two – often at odds – worlds.

His work is colourful, quirky, playful, whimsical, naïve and energetic. For Andrew, telling stories about, and in these spaces, is an integral part of how we make meaning in the world and the narrative journey is a strong theme in all of his work.

Andrew has a master’s degree in English literature but as a self-taught artist his influences range widely from Maurice Sendak and Richard Scarry to Juan Miro and Ju Ming. Recently, Andrew spent two years working as a studio assistant for South African sculptor Samuel Allerton. Andrew uses ink, watercolour paints, acrylic, wood, plaster and found objects.

Asked about his work he says “It’s such a gift to be able to create. Having fun and bringing an element of play to my work is something that I take very seriously. When someone sees my work and they break into a smile or a laugh that is what keeps me going”.
Andrew has exhibited work in Taiwan, England and South Africa and has work in private collections around the world.
