Wessel grew up in Pretoria where he matriculated in 1990. He studied Architecture at the University of Pretoria, and later in his career, Urban Design at the University of the Witwatersrand.
He is passionate about design and drawing as a medium to explore and express ideas.
He recently moved to Stellenbosch where he is working in Architecture and Urban Design. Always with a keen interest in drawing and sketching, he recently explored Printmaking as an art medium. His dad was also a book printer and he says the smell of ink reminds him of his dad’s printing shop, and as a kid he loved exploring the shop and the different traditional printing processes.
His etching prints reflects the same line quality he would use in Architectural illustrations, where line can be transformed into volume and form.
